Red Raiders finish 1st in pool play at Grand Island Tournament
The Red Raiders came out playing focused, determined, and locked in at the Grand Island Tournament as the team defeated #3 Eden 2-0, Williamsville South 2-0, and #10 Grand Island 1-1 to finish with a 5-1 record and 1st place in pool play. The unique playoff format saw the Red Raiders play #5 West Seneca West and #8 West Seneca East in the round-robin quarterfinals, with the Red Raiders losing 25-27 to West Seneca East and 20-25 to West Seneca West to end their tournament run. It was a total team effort as every team member saw significant playing time and contributed to the overall team success. Junior Jack Salerno, senior Brandon Blaszak, and sophomore Tom Zawada all made huge plays at critical times throughout the day. Senior Charlie Allesi, junior Luke Lanning, junior Cole Warner, and sophomore Zachary Tyszka led the way offensively. Senior Payton Mitchell was a defensive force at the net and senior Logan Burns played scrappy defense in the backrow. Junior Aidan Wallace led the team in assists and controlled the pace of the offense.
